Account, uploads & dashboard
Signing in
Section titled “Signing in”crowd-cast signs you in with Google, from Sign in with Google in the tray menu. The setup wizard does not prompt for this; you sign in from the tray after setup finishes. Signing in opens your browser, you approve access, and you’re done.
Signing in links your uploaded recordings to your account so your contributions can be attributed to you on the dashboard. If you don’t sign in, recordings can’t be linked to you and won’t show up on the dashboard.
Sign out from the tray menu removes your local sign-in. (To fully revoke access, also remove crowd-cast from your Google account’s security settings.)
How uploads work
Section titled “How uploads work”Finished segments upload in the background as they complete, a couple at a time. While a segment is uploading the tray shows Uploading ….
- Segments are stored locally until they upload successfully, then removed.
- If an upload fails (no connection, server hiccup), it’s retried automatically with exponential backoff (from about 30 seconds up to 2 hours), so you don’t have to do anything.
- You can Pause Uploads from the tray to hold completed segments on disk (handy on a metered connection), and Resume later. Recording keeps going either way.
The dashboard
Section titled “The dashboard”The dashboard shows your contributions and the overall collection progress. It updates roughly once an hour, so freshly recorded data won’t appear instantly.
If your recordings still aren’t showing up after an hour, try signing out and back in from the tray menu. See troubleshooting.
